  1. I’m a Comcast employee. I am not a fan of the company. I don’t mind if someone speaks bad about them, to me it’s just a job. With that said, Comcast doesn’t kill modems with a code.’ The only thing they can do is remove Internet codes from your account, which will disable the modem. They can do this to any modem, customer owned or not. This is how they stop your service if you don’t pay your bill. Same goes for any ISP. You are correct about buying your own modem, it may not work because not all modems have a MAC address or serial # compatible with your ISP. I’ve seen some Motorola DOCSIS 3 modems work and some not. Lastly, contractors are not a huge part of the workforce. In my Comcast area we have absolutely no contractors. They are actually slowly getting rid of them company wide in favor of in-house techs.
